Surfers
I've been interested in surfing since the Hardy Boys Mysteries episode where they go to Hawaii! Growing up as a kid in Columbus, that beach lifestyle held enormous mystique for me.
Later on, Kem Nunn's Tapping the Source became my favorite book -- and North Shore (1987) my favorite film. And my first novel is set in the Great Lakes surfing scene!
But even now, as I live about ten minutes from the beach, I've still never been surfing. So I've turned to art to channel that love of the subtle shades of blue in the ocean, the spray as a surfer executes a perfect kickback, and the bright flash of his board.
